High Efficiency Thermoelectric Cooling R&D Project

Scale-up activities on doped p-type BixSb2-xTe3 materials have been concluded in terms of powder processing and consolidation. A barrier layer deposition process has been developed for the materials and validated including via successful joining trials. In addition the anisotropic behaviour of the undoped material has been investigated.

Work on the synthesis, consolidation and evaluation of undoped n-type Bi2Te3-xSex materials has been concluded and doped materials have also been investigated. Scale-up activities on the latter have been concluded in terms of consolidation, however, material brittleness issues has prevented further evaluation. In addition the anisotropic behaviour of the undoped material has been investigated.

Scope for a further development project has been identified.
