Turning Heat into Power – Inside the Technology of the SPITFIRE Stove

Behind every SPITFIRE stove lies years of research and development, led by European Thermodynamics Limited (ETL), a leader in thermal energy innovation. The stove’s defining feature is its Thermoelectric Generator (TEG), which converts heat directly into electrical energy — a clean, silent, and reliable power source.
The TEG operates using custom-engineered bismuth telluride thermoelectric modules, optimised for the stove’s demanding environment. As heat is produced during cooking, the TEG captures the temperature difference and transforms it into electricity. This power drives a fan that boosts combustion, creating a cleaner, more efficient burn. Any additional electricity can be stored or used to charge mobile devices and lighting, making the SPITFIRE stove not just a cooker — but a self-sustaining micro power unit.

To support this technology, ETL has integrated a Harvester Charger System, enabling modular and scalable energy management. This plug-in feature allows the stove to function either as a standalone unit or as part of a connected energy system for larger institutional kitchens.

What truly distinguishes SPITFIRE is its balance between practicality and innovation. It’s not a luxury technology but an accessible one — designed for schools, hospitals, and community centres that need reliable, low-cost, and low-emission cooking solutions.

The result is a product that exemplifies ETL’s vision: technology that addresses real-world problems while supporting global sustainability goals. With SPITFIRE, heat becomes not just a by-product of cooking, but a source of empowerment.
