Sustainable Surface Engineering: Reducing Environmental Impact with the SYNTECS project

The SYNTECS Project is addressing these challenges by introducing a fully digital, environmentally friendly approach to laser surface texturing.

European Thermodynamics Limited (ETL) plays a key role in demonstrating the practical benefits of this technology. Using laser texturing, ETL is able to optimise the surfaces of complex-shaped copper vapor chambers, improving water transport and evaporation within the system. The combination of DLW, DLIP, and LIPSS techniques allows hierarchical textures to be created, enhancing thermal conductivity and reducing energy loss.

By replacing multiple chemical and mechanical surface treatments with a single, digitally controlled process, the SYNTECS approach reduces both material waste and energy consumption.
