With over 50% of materials wasted through conventional approaches, this project introduces an industrial-scale net-shape sintering process that significantly minimises material losses, aligning with principles of sustainability and environmental consciousness.

The Enigmatic project goes beyond waste reduction. The project aims to enhance the global competitiveness of UK-based manufacturers through the development of automated thermoelectric leg inspection and digital module design tools. These innovations not only streamline processes but also ensure that UK-based thermoelectric manufacturing stands tall on the global stage.

Objectives and Impact: ENIGMATIC’s Vision for a Sustainable Tomorrow

The overarching objectives of the Enigmatic project include developing an industrial-scale thermoelectric sintering process capable of achieving over 99% theoretical density with complex leg shape capability, focusing particularly on bismuth telluride materials. The technology developed through ENIGMATIC is expected to transform the commercial prospects of Intermediate Metal Layers (IML) and Electrodeposited Thin Layers (ETL), creating a pathway for high-tech SMEs to secure cumulative revenues of £52 million by 2030 and generate 55 highly skilled jobs.
