Adaptive Plant

Project: Adaptive Plant

The Adaptive Plant project will develop a battery-free wireless sensor platform for monitoring plant and process parameters in harsh/hazardous environments. The sensor node is powered by harvested thermoelectric power using the latest commercially available technologies and the core sensor module will be connected to low-power sensor components to take measurements.

Goals

  • To deliver a harvester sensor device extracts minimum 25mW power to supply the electrical storage device.
  • To allow plant and processing facility operators to gather data real time in a cost-effective way.
  • Create intellectual property and jobs within the collaborating partners.
  • Eliminate the need for an electrochemical battery.

Results

  • The majority of the aims were fully achieved, the project proved the concept and moved the final prototype onto a high technology readiness level.
  • Further testing work has been identified and a product development program has been put in place to develop the prototype into a commercial product.
  • The project has had a big impact on evolving the company’s future electronics product line and ETDYN’s competitiveness in the marketplace.
  • Further development work is currently on-going, and the product is expected to be released in 2015
