How SYNTECS Enables Advanced Designs in Heat Pipe and Vapor Systems

Modern thermal management systems require components that are not only efficient but also adaptable to complex designs. Traditional manufacturing methods struggle to produce intricate internal structures in heat pipes and vapor chambers, limiting both performance and design flexibility.

The SYNTECS Project is solving this problem using advanced laser surface texturing. European Thermodynamics Limited (ETL) is demonstrating how hierarchical textures created with DLW, DLIP, and LIPSS allow fluid to move efficiently through complex geometries, improving heat transfer and evaporation. These capabilities make it possible to produce vapor chambers with highly customised shapes, tailored for electronics, automotive systems, and high-performance GPUs.

By enabling these complex designs, SYNTECS opens the door to thermal solutions that were previously impossible. Components can now be optimised for both thermal performance and spatial constraints, supporting next-generation electronics and devices that are faster, more reliable, and more energy-efficient.

In addition, the use of Ultra-Short Pulse (USP) burst mode enhances production efficiency, allowing industrial-scale manufacturing while maintaining high-quality results. SYNTECS demonstrates that laser precision is not just a laboratory curiosity—it is a practical tool for achieving performance, sustainability, and design innovation in modern thermal management.
